In India, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration is a mandatory requirement for businesses engaged in the supply of goods or services. Under the GST regime, businesses with an annual turnover exceeding the specified threshold limit need to register for GST. This threshold varies based on the type of business and the state in which it operates.

GST registration involves submitting an online application through the GST portal managed by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). Upon successful registration, the business is issued a unique Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN).

Registered businesses are required to collect GST from their customers and remit it to the government. Additionally, they can claim input tax credit on GST paid on their purchases. Compliance with GST regulations involves timely filing of GST returns, payment of taxes, and adherence to other statutory requirements.

Non-compliance with GST regulations can result in penalties and legal repercussions. Therefore, businesses must ensure proper registration and compliance with GST provisions to operate legally and smoothly in the Indian market.
